A mac productivity tool for application shortcuts and window management.
Raycast is an app for macOS that aims to replace Spotlight, letting you quickly search files, run commands, control apps, and access extensions for tools like GitHub, Linear, and Slack. It also includes features like clipboard history, window management, snippets, and AI integrations, all accessible via keyboard shortcuts.
The two main features I use in my workflow are the ability to quickly launch and jump between apps via shortcuts, and the window management features that let you quickly resize and snap windows to different parts of the screen.
Raycast lets you override the default behavior of the caps lock key (which I think I have only ever used by accident to begin with). Caps lock becomes a "hyper key" (the equivalent of pressing all modifier keys all at once) and can then be combined with other keys to trigger shortcuts.
Here are my shortcuts:
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
✦ Space | Raycast Interface |
✦ H | Browser (Chrome) |
✦ J | Browser (Zen) |
✦ K | Terminal (Kitty) |
✦ L | Slack |
✦ ← | Move window to left half |
✦ → | Move window to right half |
✦ ↑ | Maximize window |
✦ ↓ | Reasonable window size |
